JAMAICA GASOLENE RETAILERS ASSOCIATION
The Jamaica Gasolene Retailers Association was formed in 1950, its Constitution was established in 1951, and in July 1953, was registered as a Trade Union.
Certain specific objectives were established and , in summary, they are:
To advance the interest of the gasoline retailer and secure harmony and co-operation within the industry;
To promote or oppose, as the case may be, legislation and subsidiary Legislation calculated to affect the interest of its members and to make such contracts with its members and give such direction to its members and take such other action for the foregoing as may be thought expedient;
To provide legal assistance for members in matters of common interest;
To inculcate and maintain high standards of integrity and honour in the distribution of petroleum products;
To promote and protect the legitimate trade interest of its members by such lawful means as from time to time may seem expedient;
To establish good working relations between members and their employees, between members and their Association and also among employees in the trade.
The Association has been living up to one of its prime objectives, namely, that of protecting the general interests of its members and providing benefits that would otherwise be unattainable.
The records show that in the early years there was a very small membership, sometimes not as many as were necessary to fill the executive posts. The membership presently embraces over 85% of the dealers in the trade.
